Mirza Kurtović vs WizzFX
Mirza Kurtovic from Otvoreni Radio – one of the biggest stations in Croatia – was curious about our plug-in chains, what’s on our master channel and more!
What is your outboard chain for recording Station Voice? Which microphone – preamp – compressor are you using.. and how much is this important to get that rich, fancy radio vocal sound?
I tend to go for a raw, un-processed as possible recording, and then add tone, texture and modelling (rarely) if I desire. My theory is that this allows me to process the voice to work for different scenarios a little easier, rather than be stuck with a pre-processed recording that might not work.
I’m using Cubase 8 so I cant use your Protools tamplates… can you write me which plugins are most common in your vocal processing part? Waves, UAD? I wanna get that CINEMA crispy sound…
My staple plug-in set is Waves. Mostly the C1, the Q10, L1 all feature. I also enjoy using the H-Comp and C4 at times too.
Same question for mastering?
I’m always tweaking what I use depending on the sound I’m creating, but my approach tends to be around multiplicative compression techniques, using a few compressors to work different parts of the master in relation to each other. Right now I’m enjoying using the H Comp, SSL Plug-ins, and Ozone 5.
Currently Im working on some beat mixes like Back2Music elements. What is the easiest way to do that?
I’m talking about mixes with songs in same BPM and KEY… My method is classic editing and my feeling…I read BPM and KEY of the song in program like MIXED IN KEY and then I jump on editing….how much you use accapellas and instumental parts for that kind of element? Is there some software that can make me this work easier?
I always tend to work by my ear on these, I’m not a big user of Mixed In Key. I will use acapella’s and instumental’s all the time, I always try to make sure that I implement things in a way that sound like they’ve always meant to go together. If I can hear the edits and the songs don’t fit I don’t do it. I tend to stay away from making music demonstrators though, because I feel like it’s a way to annoy the listener and up the repitrition of your music. But that’s just me…
What plug in are you using for VOCAL harmony tricks, like on your Imaging reel https://soundcloud.com/wizzfx/big-top-40-imaging-reel-july-2015 at 17 seconds… “HERE WE GO”
WavesTune, Native Instruments The Mouth, and clever layering and effecting.
When you working on let say jingle, sweeper with rythm or beat mix… are you working in BPM mode or you using TEMPO TRACK for each element … Because when Im listening some of your stuff, many effects are in time…delays, time strech and other…or you have for each element his own pro tools project?
I always work to a grid, in Pro Tools it’s called Elastic Time. I like to have my work in time, because we’re making little mini songs really, or at least collages of songs and I think it’s important to have the tempo calculated for slick, smooth sounding transitions and production!
