BiLs Music Show Intro Jingle

BiLs Music in Tunisia sent through another piece via our Submit Your Work section on the website. This is something he’s created as a Show Intro Jingle for Cap FM in Tunisia.
BiLs is working with Cap FM Radio as a sound designer and assistant artistic director. He’s working on protools and has experience with radio stations and known production agencies creating film music and songs in different styles. He’s after feedback on his latest piece!
Thoughts: Bils Music Show Intro Jingle
Before we start, these are just my own personal thoughts – these are not gospel – and I hope they will help out. If you feel I missed something, or want to add your own thoughts please comment below! Let’s get started, check out the piece:
Sonic Logo
As with BiLs previous piece the sonic logo element to the music sounds good.
Music
I presume that Bils composed this piece and the style is relatively modern and has a nice pace. I wonder if the snare drum sound isn’t quite tight enough to really punch through the mix. I wonder if perhaps the bass levels of the mix are a bit loud, and the midrange not quite as present as it could be to really help things punch. But it could just be me.
On the last piece I gave feedback on, I mentioned that the music levels seemed to dip around a lot – I can hear an improvement here as it’s not as noticeable.
Sung Vocal’s
These sit well in the mix, and I feel like they have a bit more clarity that the previous piece. But I can hear a stray harmony somewhere about halfway through, and it’s at that stage when some really extreme processing on the voice comes in – like AutoTune or WavesTune – which makes it quite hard to listen to, perhaps it’s working too hard on the vocal takes used? Couple of cool effects at the beginning with the panned ‘Cap’ though, I like that!
FX
I like the little starter FX at the beginning of this piece, but upon listening a few times I felt like something was missing – perhaps a bit of sound design to help parts of the piece pop out. Most notably I feel a an impact off the back on the final not of music would really aid the punch into the next element on the radio station nicely. This was something I noticed last time too.
Mastering
This piece feels like it’s a bit better glued together than the previous piece, but I still wonder if the overall mastering could help smoothen out the mix a bit more, especially the bass and the midrange. But, overall it sounds much improved upon last time.
Overall
BiLs has really taken on board some of the stuff I mentioned in my last feedback, and tried to improve with this piece. Keep working at it and things will get better and better!
